The Outlaw
There we were…her and I. There was a look in her eye that told me I was done! Her weapons were pointed on me and she had me dead to rights. I knew it would take some finagling to get her but how?
She motioned with her gun for me to step to her left side. Her trigger finger was jumpy so I figured I’d better take it slow and easy. I inched my way to where she motioned me to stand. She kept a close eye on me as she rummaged in the side saddles of her horse. Her eyes grew colder as she looked at me. I knew what she desired to do! All it would take was a simple excuse… but I wasn’t giving that to her.
I wondered what she was searching for…hopefully, not a rope as I didn’t want to be strung up. I must have slowed down too much because her revolver motioned me a little more emphatically. I was concerned it would go off anytime. I really wanted to make my move but I hesitated. Was she too involved in her search party for whatever it was she was going to do? If so, I think I could have gotten away with it. If not, I was dead meat! I must have hesitated too long, because I noticed her cold gaze was on me once again.
I smiled and nodded. “Hey, pardner! I’m not trying to hurt you. Just wanting to talk frien’ly like.” She didn’t say a word, and a chill went up my spine. I’d heard that when she wasn’t talking, death was on the move.
