As I was going through my stuff I hadn’t looked at in years, I found a poem I wrote years ago.

Okay, my first poem didn’t look like this.

It looked more like this:

When I was in college in my early twenties, I wrote a poem for my dad about one of my classes. I studied hard and was afraid I would fail.

Mid-term Exam

Before

I studied hard
What did I get?
I think I passed
You made me sweat!

I know the stuff
I know it well
But when it comes
I shall not fail!

When grading comes
I’ll give a note,
“Give me an A
To pass this boat!”

Of course, I had to wait a long while to find out the grade. When it finally came out, I finished up the poem.

After

I made an A
I passed the test
I studied hard
And did my best

Well, thank-you, sir
And thank-you, ma’am
I passed this hard…
